    Computer Management Part 3

    This week in Advanced, I’m going to give you the skinny on the third and final section of the Computer Management Console found in WinXP Professional. This third section is where you’ll find Services and Applications, or S&A from here on out, and control some of their functionality. The four things found nested under S&A can also be found elsewhere on your computer, but the console brings them all together nice and tidy like here. So if you’re interested in Services, WMI Control, Indexing Service, and Internet Information Services, you’re in for a treat.

    Bitshifting in C

    Bitshifting. It sounds pretty tough, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not really that tough, but it does take a touch of math knowledge to easily pick up on it. There may be a bit of a learning curve to fully understand what it means to shift bits, but it’s a very handy functionality of some programming languages. For those of you that don’t want to know the nuts and bolts of it, I’ll start off with what it does and spare you the technical talk until the end.

    Max Payne 2

    For the first five minutes into the original Max Payne, all I remember thinking was “they just ripped that from The Matrix!” Starting with minute six, I never thought of that movie again. Of course, if you played the original, you know what I’m talking about. “Bullet Time,” as the programmers liked to call it. You click the right-mouse button and everything slows down so slow you can dodge bullets. Along with the “M” rating for violence, language, and everything else that makes computer games great, Rockstar came out with a winner. Max Payne 2 only improves on its predecessor.
