    Perseids Peak Sunday

‘Great Show’: Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks Sunday Night — space.com

The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks Sunday night, and this year the show will be particularly spectacular. Unlike recent years, the Perseids happen to fall on a day when the moon’s phase is new. Therefore, the sky will be especially dark, making the meteors seem especially bright.

Also, seeing as how rain no longer falls in my area, I’m sure cloud-cover won’t be a problem. (See, I’m an eternal optimist that finds the good in every situation.)

In any event, this will be worth staying up late for.

Comparison of Our Sun to VY Canis Majoris

Here is a link to a pic that compares our sun to the largest known star. You may have to zoom in and out to find our sun (on the left).

The Canis Major constellation is the “big dog” that follows Orion in the winter sky.

Scientist Calls Mars a Terraforming Target for the 21st Century — Space.com

This is probably too obscure for the people that read this blog, but I’ll give it a shot anyway. Kudos to the first person to figure it out.

    Now: Global Cooling

    Posted: Wed Jun 20 2007 17:41

Read the sunspots — National Post

Now it’s time to prepare ourselves for global cooling, apparently.

The fact that science is many years away from properly understanding global climate doesn’t seem to bother our leaders at all. Inviting testimony only from those who don’t question political orthodoxy on the issue, parliamentarians are charging ahead with the impossible and expensive goal of “stopping global climate change.”

    Exactly.

Global warming is starting to get replaced with “climate change” to cover the snake oil salesmen pimping the idea of man-made global warming for when (or, in case) it turns cool. The politicians have to get their bases covered before it becomes too obvious.

Here’s a post with more of my thoughts on global warming.
