Yesterday we bowed for kings and bent our necks before emperors. But today, we kneel only to truth -- Khalil Gibran

    A Convenient Science

    Posted: Mon Apr 24 2006 14:18

Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth, is coming out soon, and I thought I’d throw out a few links for the initiated to ponder.

First of all, many scientists believe that the sun — the giant ball of gas that is creating all this God-forsaken heat — may actually be to blame for creating all of this God-forsaken heat.

Take this article, for example, detailing the measurements of solar output. The solar output has been higher over the past 60 years than in the past 1150 years. The single scientist states that the increased activity is not enough to justify the 0.2 average increase in temperatures over the same time period.

However, Earth’s air is cleaner now than in recent memory. Global warming activists fret that our laws that have cleaned up so many particulates in the air are actually contributing and accelerating global warming because more sunlight is reaching us today.

Additionally, Mars’ ice caps are melting. Yes, it’s true. Are too many little green men driving SUV’s? Perhaps such evidence from NASA would lead one to believe that the sun might cause the same trends here on Earth? Is it at least conceivable that we should spend more time studying the output of the sun as the major, if not sole, contributor to the warming trends experienced over recent decades?

Just to confuse you, the Earth, in fact, has been cooling since 1998. Here’s an excerpt of a logical point:

In response to these facts, a global warming devotee will chuckle and say “how silly to judge climate change over such a short period”. Yet in the next breath, the same person will assure you that the 28-year-long period of warming which occurred between 1970 and 1998 constitutes a dangerous (and man-made) warming. Tosh. Our devotee will also pass by the curious additional facts that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940, well prior to the greatest phase of world industrialisation, and that cooling occurred between 1940 and 1965, at precisely the time that human emissions were increasing at their greatest rate.

Hurricane seasons, by the way, are cyclical. The 1940’s had many devestating hurricanes. Scientists all over the world are debunking the political movement attempting to tie global warming to an increase in hurricane activity and strength. Unfortunately, if history is an accurate predictor of future behavior, we will have many more extremely active hurricane seasons in the near future. Enough, in fact, to fuel the fundraising for the politics of global warming for years to come.

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on, but in the end, I don’t know for sure. The problem is, neither does Al Gore or anyone else on this Earth. Let me put it like this:

In 2003, NASA sent up what was heralded as “the most perfect spheres ever created by humanity.” Without getting into the details, this experiment was set to test Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Einstein published his paper on relativity in 1905, yet nearly 100 years later, we are still physically testing the theory — a theory taken as fact for nearly a century.

That’s the nature of science. We hypothesize, test, and conclude. Then we repeat. And repeat again. Then we publish the works, all information, and the process, so other scientists can test. Then they do it again. And again and again. Politics, on the other hand, demands that science stick its collective finger in the air and conclude, without any doubt, that global warming, for example, is true and that it is humanity’s fault.

In the end, politics is the pimp and science is the whore. I get to watch everyone, on both sides of the issue, decimate the validity and purity of science for political gains and money. Because of this blasphemy, in the end, we all lose.
