    Just a Comment

    Posted: Sun Oct 28 2007 9:31

I know that updates to this blog have slowed to a drip, and I’m sorry for that (to anyone who actually cares). Law school is marching along, I suppose. This semester seems easier to me than last year. One reason is that my family is here this year, but another reason is that once you find your stride, it’s just day-to-day like everything else.

One of the more stressing events of this semester is writing my comment — a 40-ish page paper that is due in a couple of weeks. My topic is going to surround “ethical hacking” and how the law treats ethical hackers and unethical hackers the same. I plan on talking about (to varying degrees) the DMCA, DeCSS, ElcomSoft, the role of ethical hackers, and a few other anecdotal stories.

If anyone in the community wants to leave a tip or information, please email me (link above) or leave a comment. I would like, essentially, to write a critical paper about the DMCA in those ways that “we” in the community always complain.

UPDATE: By “we,” I mean those of us in the computer community.

    Campbell Law Moving to Raleigh

Campbell Law School Coming to Raleigh, Sources Say — WRAL

Campbell Law school, where I attend, is moving to Raleigh. The announcement is not official yet; it comes at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

This has been looming over the school since I have been a student, and it has been a subject of great debate. We are out in the middle of nowhere here in Buies Creek, N.C., and the school will most certainly benefit from being in the capital of N.C. (Although, I can make a strong argument that the school will suffer, too.) North Carolina has gotten a new law school or two lately, and if one were to come to Raleigh (one of the few state capital’s that do not have a law school), it would probably be the death of this school.

Nonetheless, I am well-entrenched here now, and from a purely personal and selfish standpoint, I hope that the school will not move until after I graduate.

    Course Change

    Posted: Tue Aug 21 2007 16:25

I decided to drop Juvenile Mediation today. The requirements of the course are such that I think it would add too much work and stress to my semester, and since the course is not required, it was an easy decision. I do think that the premise is interesting — you actually do clinical work related to mediating juveniles who have committed crimes — but it’s just not going to work out for me this semester.
