    For Once I Agree

Church of England calls Sony game ’sick’ — AP

For once I agree with an anti-gaming article. Sony has allegedly used Manchester cathedral, in England, as the backdrop for a violent shootout in Resistance: Fall of Man.

The church said Sony did not ask for permission to use Manchester cathedral and demanded an apology.

The popular new PlayStation 3 game, “Resistance: Fall of Man,” shows a virtual shootout between rival gunmen with hundreds of people killed inside the cathedral. Church officials described Sony’s alleged use of the building as “sick” and sacrilegious.

Since the map (the surroundings the gamer plays in) used in the game is created wholly by people, and does not use photos, it seems quite unnecessary to have a “mission” in the game — which is apparently a bloodbath — take place in a church.

Of course, the worst that I think this amounts to is bad taste; however, I think that’s quite enough. If you want to have a game where the player plays a police officer, and you want to create such a mission as detailed in the church, have it take place somewhere else.

    (Another) Terror Plot Foiled

4 Charged in JFK Airport Terror Plot — Newsmax

By now, you’ve heard that a “chilling” terror plot that would have rivaled 9/11 in devestation has been foiled; therefore, I only came here to say one quick thing: foiled terror plots are forgettable. I’ve been scouring every new article that came out about this newest foiled plot to see how the plot was discovered. Was it due to provisions in the much-hated-by-the-left Patriot Act? I’m sure we’ll never find out exactly how it was discovered, but to hammer my point home, and to put yet-another-failed-plot in perspective, let this sink in:

The arrests mark the latest in a series of alleged homegrown terrorism plots targeting high-profile American landmarks.

A year ago, seven men were arrested in what officials called the early stages of a plot to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago and destroy FBI offices and other buildings.

A month later, authorities broke up a plot to bomb underwater New York City train tunnels to flood lower Manhattan.

And six people were arrested a month ago in an alleged plot to unleash a bloody rampage on Fort Dix in New Jersey.

Sears Tower; FBI offices, et al.; lower Manhattan; Fort Dix; and now devestation at an airport, and its fuel pipeline running underground, that would rival 9/11 — all in the timespan of roughly a year. Of course, all of that is forgettable, probably for more than one reason. (Definitely a big one is that they are American, and Bush, successes, and the media just don’t want to talk about that. After all, Paris Hilton gets more coverage than these foiled terror plots.)

That’s the state of affairs in the world today. Some people think we can sit around a campfire and have a heart-to-heart with such people, and they want you to vote for them so they can make it happen; other people want to continue to implement foreign policies that continue to foil the terror plots of such people.
