Yesterday we bowed for kings and bent our necks before emperors. But today, we kneel only to truth -- Khalil Gibran

    ‘The Calm Before The Storm’

    Posted: Fri Jun 23 2006 14:53

My six-month project of learning the basics of digital art is drawing to a close.

I’ve only managed to churn out three semi-major examples of what I’ve done. The first was a poor attempt at learning Bryce. The second was better, but the shortcomings of Bryce for spacescenes came through glaringly.

This one, which I have affectionately titled The Calm Before The Storm, has been created entirely in Photoshop with over 40 layers. The planet alone took me several days of work. The version posted here is a lower resolution for load times, and unfortunately, a lot of detail is lost. There is a significant amount of texture in the planet; mountains, snow peaks, rivers, etc., are all visible in the full (1800×1200) version. Such is the nature of paying for the bandwidth that is used, though.

    I hope you enjoy!
